Needed: 1800 Workers for New Vote Center

The County ROV urgently needs help NOW recruiting 1800 workers for the new vote centers and upcoming March elections. Its FT, short term (7 – 21 days), and good pay.  Student stipends for 16 years and over.

Don’t need to be a citizen, but at least be permanent resident. They need bilingual speakers, too.

Instead of polling places, we will have vote centers to be opened either for 10 days plus election or 3 days plus election. 

There will be 110+ vote centers spread throughout the Santa Clara County.  Any registered voter in Santa Clara County can vote in any vote center.

Each vote center will be staffed by one lead, a co-lead and election aides (or clerks).

This is a quick summary of the positions:

 VOTE CENTER AIDE (Election Aide) – Clerks

SALARY RANGE: $19.92 to $24.21 per hour (3 days of training beginning Jan 15, 2020 & can work for up to 16 days if assigned to an 11 day VC)

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Individuals hired into this class are extra help employees and perform assigned tasks on an as-needed basis prior to, during and immediately following an election. The Vote Center Aide assists the Vote Center Leads, performing all customer service and technical duties and responsibilities of multiple functional areas within the Vote Center. Candidates should be adaptable, flexible and able to get along well with others.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

  • Facilitate voting in a Vote Center.
  • Operate various types of voting equipment.
  • Communicate effectively and deal tactfully with members of the public, under stressful conditions.
  • Assist in the opening and closing procedures as needed.

OR

VOTE CENTER LEAD/TRAINER (Election Worker I)

SALARY RANGE: $20.52 to $24.69 per hour (7 days of training beginning Jan 6, 2020 & can work for up to 20 days if assigned at an 11 day VC)

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Individuals hired into this class are extra help employees and perform assigned tasks on an as-needed basis prior to, during and immediately following an election.

The Vote Center Lead performs the most difficult and responsible types of duties, including conducting research and problem resolution which requires specialized knowledge.

The Vote Center Lead is required to perform all duties and responsibilities of multiple functions.

QUALIFICATIONS

 Knowledge of:

  • Principles of leadership and training.
  • Office methods and equipment including computer systems and applicable software applications.
  • Principles and practices of customer service.
  • Basic mathematic skills.
  • Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

  • Provide lead for other clerical staff, which may include assigning, scheduling, and prioritizing work and providing training to less experienced staff.
  • Perform the more complex and specialized administrative and clerical duties within assigned functional areas; compile data; summarize and maintain a variety of reports.
  • Verify the work of assigned employees for accuracy.
  • Assist with conduct of instruction classes.

OR

 VOTE CENTER AIDE (Election Aide) – Clerks

CANOPY POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT 

Volunteer Coordinator – Full Time

POSITION SUMMARY Under the direction under Canopy senior staff, the Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for outreach and volunteer engagement for all of Canopy’s programs. A balance of office work and fieldwork can be expected. Every person on the Canopy team is expected to collaborate on shared goals. Work week will be Tuesday through Saturday, with early mornings and evenings on occasion. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Volunteer Engagement and Cultivation: 

  • Recruit, coordinate, communicate, and retain new and existing volunteers and volunteer groups for all Canopy programs 
  • Foster relationships with new and existing partners and service clubs 
  • Seek out innovative sources for long and short term volunteer support 
  • Lead volunteer appreciation and retention efforts 
  • Develop and manage volunteer policies, procedures, and standards of volunteer service 
  • Conduct and/or arrange for volunteer orientation and training 
  • Train volunteers to use office and specialized equipment when appropriate 
  • Maintain volunteer position descriptions for each volunteer assignment 
  • Maintain the Canopy calendar of events and online sign-up forms 
  • Coordinate the monthly Volunteer Wire 
  • Maintain accurate database records of events and volunteer profiles, and enter all relevant information in Canopy’s database to track volunteer engagement 

Outreach and Programmatic Support: 

  • Support program staff with outreach for programs and events 
  • Assist with program collateral creation and printing 
  • Schedule and prepare activities for outreach events at community fairs, and the like; coordinate volunteers/board members to host tablings 
  • Prepare registration and hospitality materials for all events 
  • Serve as registration host and provide day of support at plantings and other events 
  • Assist with coordinating Canopy’s Annual Party and Arbor Day celebrations 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 

  • Bilingual in Spanish/English a plus 
  • Experience organizing and motivating volunteers from diverse communities 
  • Experience in sales or customer service 
  • Comfortable with Google Suite and Microsoft Office 
  • CA Drivers License and several years driving experience

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
