Adult Education Teaching Credential Program

Eligibility for Enrollment

The Adult Education Credentialing Program is available to individuals who meet California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) requirements and who are associated with a participating school district.

Because adult education credentials are employment-based, enrollment in the program requires employment with or formal sponsorship by a partnering school district that has an active agreement with our district to provide credentialing services.

Role of Participating School Districts

Participating districts determine their own hiring and referral practices. Districts typically refer candidates to the credentialing program during the hiring process for a position that requires an adult education credential. As a result, the credentialing program does not place candidates, advocate for individual applicants, or refer individuals to districts for employment.

For Prospective Candidates

Individuals who are interested in earning an Adult Education Credential are encouraged to:

  • Monitor job postings by participating district, on resources such as Edjoin.org with adult schools.
  • Apply directly to the school district for adult education teaching positions
  • Inquire about credential requirements during the hiring process

Clearing the Credential

To clear a Preliminary Adult Education Credential, candidates must be employed as an adult education teacher and complete required coursework, teaching experience, and supervision as outlined by the CTC.

Important Note

Meeting minimum eligibility requirements does not guarantee employment or enrollment. Employment decisions are made independently by school districts and are not managed by the credentialing program.

If you are eligible based on the above, please click the button below to be included in a future information session.
